江戸時代末期を代表する浮世絵師の一人「歌川国芳」の浮世絵を用いた手拭い。

「歌川国芳」1798年〜1861年。活動期間 1814~1861。

発想の豊かさ、斬新なデザイン力、奇想天外なアイデア、確実なデッサン力を持ち、

浮世絵の枠にとどまらない広範な魅力を持つ作品を多く生み出した絵師です。

無類の猫好きだった国芳は、自身の自画像に描かれているように、工房には常に、たくさん猫がいたそうです。

それが高じたのか生まれたのが「猫の当字（あてじ）」シリーズ。

こちらが「ふぐ」

1841年〜1843年頃、このような猫を使って仮名文字を表現した浮世絵作品が、多数生まれたそうです。

今回のてぬぐい「蛸」「ふぐ」のほかにも「なまず」や「かつお」「うなぎ」などなど。。

この発想、表現力は素晴らしいですね☆
